Michael Bennett thinks highly of DeForest Buckner

  • Kevin Patra of nfl.com writes that according to Michael Bennett, San Francisco 49er’s DL Deforest Buckner could be a defensive MVP. The 49er’s made Buckner the seventh overall pick in the 2016 draft. Bucker was PFFs number 2 prospect in the 2016 draft.
  • As a rookie Buckner lead all 3-4 defensive ends in snaps played at 1,006, while starting his career in 2016 by grading 31st out of 127 eligible defensive interior players with a grade of 77.2 overall. He was the top graded rookie 3-4 defensive end.
  • Buckner was impressive both defending the run and as a pass rusher. His 35 defensive stops and 48 total pressures were both the most by any rookie interior defender.
