The big tournaments are one of the most fun things about DFS, and this year is no different, with FanDuel offering a $9 entry tournament with a top prize of $1 million. To help you try to take down that top prize (or any other top prize), we’re bringing you a FanDuel tournament preview for Week 1.
If you’re looking for a cash approach to FanDuel, be sure to check out our piece focused on cash games. I’ll also likely be using some of my cash players in tournament lineups this week as well.
This piece will walk you through each position with the expected chalk, a contrarian option, and a stack to consider — all from a tournament perspective.
New this year, FanDuel removed the kicker position and replaced it with a flex option, which can be filled with a running back, wideout, or tight end. This shakes up the strategy from previous years, and it may take a few weeks to really find out footing with the new roster construction. However, this change opens up the door for more “game stacks” in FanDuel GPPs, so we’ll run through some of those possibilities as well.
Quarterbacks
Chalk: Andy Dalton ($6,800). The Colts secondary is abysmal, with all three cornerbacks grading outside the top 45 in PFF grades last season. Dalton is the 14th-most-expensive quarterback and will be throwing to the elite A.J. Green. He’s cheap and offers massive upside.
Contrarian: Russell Wilson ($7,900). People will see “@ Denver Broncos” and steer clear, but the Broncos pass defense is not as fearsome as it once was; last year, they gave up 29 passing touchdowns against just nine interceptions, and they no longer have Aqib Talib.
