  • Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that Saints left tackle Terron Armstead is scheduled for surgery on Monday to repair a torn labrum. Armstead is expected to be sidelined four to six months, which means he could miss the entire 2017 season.
  • Armstead was drafted by the Saints in 2013, and got his first start at left tackle Week 16 of his rookie season. He started both of the Saints postseason games that year, and was second in PFF pass-blocking efficiency rankings at 96.7 (pressures allowed on a per-snap basis with weighting toward sacks) among all offensive tackles in the playoffs.
  • 2015 was Armstead's best season, when his overall PFF grade of 90.8 was third-best at offensive tackle. He allowed only three sacks and 20 total QB pressures in 559 pass-block snaps, ranking second in PFF pass-blocking efficiency at 97.2 for the year.
  • Armstead missed a few games due to injury in 2014 and 2015, and in 2016 he only played 397 of 1,152 possible snaps while battling leg injuries. He still finished second in PFF pass-blocking efficiency at 97.6 in 2016, and his loss this season will be a huge blow to the Saints’ passing game.
