Peppers working as a safety in Browns minicamp

  • Browns’ rookie Jabrill Peppers saw most of his reps at minicamp as a safety with the second- and third-team units.
  • How Peppers will be used by defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is intriguing, as the ex-Wolverine lacks a prototypical position in most NFL defenses.
  • Mostly used as a linebacker in his last year at Michigan, he exhibited tremendous explosive ability, recording 37 tackles in the run game (338 snaps), 20 of which resulted in a defensive stop. His 5.9 run-stop percentage ranked 12th among safeties in college football in 2016.
  • His athletic abilities were on show in all phases of the game in 2016, where he averaged 14.8 yards on punt returns and scoring one touchdown, and he might very well see some action as a runner or a returner in his first year in Cleveland.
