- Adam Schefter is reporting that Raiders edge defender Khalil Mack will have to wait until 2018 for a contract extension. Oakland has recently signed quarterback Derek Carr and guard Gabe Jackson to long-term extensions, and with Mack under contract for two more years the team will wait to extend his deal until sometime before the 2018 season.
- Mack has developed into the premier edge rusher in the NFL over his first three seasons. His 96 total quarterback pressures during the regular season were the most of any player in 2016, and he generated a pressure on 19.3 percent of his pass-rush attempts, also a league best.
- Mack is a dominant run defender as well — his 32 run stops were the third most of any edge defender in 2016. He made a stop on 9.0 percent of his snaps against the run, the seventh-best percentage of any edge defender who played at least 200 run snaps.
