Jets bring in ILB Gerald Hodges for a visit

  • The New York Jets brought in ILB Gerald Hodges for a visit. He was PFF’s No. 21 LB out of 87 qualifiers in 2016, earning an 82.4 production grade and would be an upgrade at the linebacker position.
  • Hodges ranked 21st out of 60 qualified inside linebackers with a 9.3 run-stop percentage and his 29 total stops ranked 15th. Both numbers are higher than either current starting ILB on the Jets’ roster. David Harris had a run-stop percentage of 6.1 with 22 stops, while Darron Lee had a 5.7 run-stop percentage and just 11 stops.
  • Hodges ranked 10th among 57 qualifying linebackers with a pass-rush productivity rating of 16.4 (PRP measures pressure created on a per-snap basis weighting toward sacks). Harris led Jets’ linebackers last season with a PRP of 8.4 while Lee posted a 6.8 rating.
  • Hodges ranked 28th out of 64 qualified linebackers in 2016 with a 10.6 tackle efficiency rating (number of tackle attempts per each missed tackle). Harris finished the season with a 15.5 tackle efficiency rating (ranked 14th) and Lee finished with a 15.3 rating (13th).
  • Hodges was effective in coverage as well, he ranked 16th among 57 qualified linebackers in 2016 with an average of 0.78 yards given up per coverage snap. Harris ranked ninth with an average of 0.73 yards, but Lee ranked 50th with an average of 1.24 yards.
