- The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of first-round draft pick LB Reuben Foster on Friday. As with most first-round contracts it is a four-year deal with a fifth-year team option.
- Foster was widely considered the best linebacker in this year’s draft but fell all the way to the 31st overall pick, where the 49ers traded up back into the first round to select the Alabama linebacker. Foster ranked as the fifth-best overall prospect and the top linebacker on the PFF draft big board.
- Foster led all college linebackers last year with an overall PFF grade of 93.9 and also ranked first with a run-defense grade of 93.4, he also showed the ability to cover with an 86.5 coverage grade. His overall grade of 93.9 is the second-highest in the PFF college era (PFF began grading college in 2014).
- He also led all draft-eligible linebackers with a run-stop percentage of 16.3, totalling 52 run stops on 320 run snaps (a stop is defined as anything that constitutes a “loss” for the offense).
