Allen’s had a tremendous career with the Los Angeles Chargers. He peaked in 2017 and 2018 with back-to-back 89.7 season receiving grades. It seemed downhill after losing Philip Rivers, but his worst season in his 11-year career was a 74.9 grade, and he’s been getting better in recent seasons.

At 32 years old, Allen is the third-oldest wide receiver on an NFL roster, only behind Adam Thielen by two years and Robert Woods by two weeks. He ranks 26th all-time in receptions and that wear and tear has impacted his ability to stay healthy. He missed four games last season and seven the year before. There is at least some risk his quality of play declines somewhat and that he misses games this season.

The fact that the quarterback, all three wide receivers and the offensive playcaller are all working with each other for the first time adds a lot more uncertainty to Allen’s season. He will certainly decline this season from fewer routes run and a lower target percentage. Ideally, we’ll get a sense of how the Bears will play in two-receiver sets sooner rather than later, but we won’t know how targets are distributed until much later. He could see anywhere from a slight decline in targets to finishing third on the team in targets. It’s not fun drafting a player where we’re confident his total numbers will decline, but his ADP is WR32, making him a solid gamble.
