His statistics by situation match what you would expect from someone with Metcalf’s size. He is good against man coverage and single coverage when he’s lined up out wide and gets open. He’s also better against press coverage than the majority of wide receivers. He hasn’t performed well from the slot, but luckily he’s not asked to run many routes from the slot compared to most receivers.
•
Geno Smith is the favorite to be the Seahawks starting quarterback. They added Sam Howell, but Smith is better suited for Metcalf. The biggest difference is their accuracy on deep passes, and Metcalf’s deep target rate is higher than most receivers. If Smith were to get injured or benched, it would probably negatively impact Metcalf more than it would hurt other wide receivers if their starting quarterback got hurt or benched.

Metcalf has been a dependable fantasy asset and not much has changed. The new coordinator and the chance of more red zone plays that may lead to more touchdowns could help Metcalf reach new heights, but chances are we will continue to see him in the 13.5-14.5 fantasy points per game range. He’s a great player to have to balance out a team that is taking more risks on other players.
