Brown has been a star of the Bengals training camp. Early in camp, there were reports of Brown seeing the majority of first-team work over Moss. At the time, it seemed like he was the incumbent running back getting the first chance of being a starter, but there haven’t been reports of Moss taking over.
•
Moss missed the first preseason game due to an illness, allowing Brown to get all of the first-team reps with the starters. This included third and long situations, which Mixon and Brown weren’t doing much of last regular season. There have been times the Bengals have given their early down backs work on third down in the preseason and other times they have not, so this doesn’t confirm Brown will play on third downs this season. It certainly doesn’t hurt. Brown was great as a receiver on a small sample size, so it would make sense to have him on the field in passing situations. The Bengals rested their key players for their second preseason game, including both Moss and Brown.
•
Brown’s weren’t all that great on a small sample, but neither were Mixon’s during his time with the Bengals. Mixon was consistently a top-12 fantasy running back with the Bengals because of the high-quality offense and his red zone touchdowns. If Brown can get the Mixon role, he would be capable of doing the same. There is still a good chance Moss takes some of the work or even wins the starting job, but there is a lot of upside for Brown if he wins the job outright, or if Moss gets injured at any point this season.
