  • Denver Broncos Head Coach Vance Joseph told reporters Friday that starting safety T.J. Ward suffered a hamstring injury during practice. “We’re not sure how serious or how mild,” Joseph said. “He’s being checked out by the doctor right now.”
  • Ward’s PFF overall grade of 75.9 in 2016 was the worst of his career, ranking as the 48th best safety. The biggest weakness in his game last season was run defense. His eight missed tackles in run defense were the fourth most of any safety in 2016. When lined up within eight yards of the line of scrimmage Ward missed six tackles which were the third most of any safety.
  • Although he wasn’t great in run defense, Ward was the best blitzing safety in the NFL last season, racking up 17 total pressures (most among safeties) for a pass-rushing productivity of 28.3 (pass-rush productivity measures pressure created on a per snap basis with weighting towards sacks).
