  • The Redskins announced on Monday that they have released former Seahawk CB Tharold Simon, making room for college UDFA Tevin Homer to take his place. If he can stay healthy, Simon has shown that he can be more than a serviceable backup.
  • The Redskins signed Simon to a futures contract in January to add depth to a secondary that underperformed in 2016, allowing an average of 377.9 passing yards per game, the fifth-worst mark in the league.
  • At 6-foot-3, Simon possess the coveted height for a defensive back. He was drafted in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Seahawks, featuring heavily in the Seahawks playoff run as a sophomore (2014). Simon also saw some playing time after being claimed off waivers by the Cardinals.
  • On 183 coverage snaps taken in 2014, Simon was rarely thrown at. He averaged 18.3 cover snaps per reception, and 9.6 cover snaps per target ranking him seventh and eighth in the league, respectively. He allowed a QB rating of just 44.4, ranking him second in the NFL.
  • Simon has played 381 career coverage snaps. On those snaps, he has allowed a completion percentage of 55.2 percent. Simon has also permitted a QB rating of only 54.2 when targeted.
