We're hot on the trail of every NFL Training Camp as we progress into the first few weeks of the preseason. With injury news coming out every day unsettlingly, we're tracking all the major takeaways from every team's camp, be it good or bad, and what that could mean for each franchise heading into the season.
Keeping things going today, we examine all 32 teams' training camps to date, continuing things with the NFC North.
Detroit Lions
Per the Detroit Free Press, first-round offensive lineman Frank Ragnow has worked primarily at left guard during training camp. The former Arkansas star was selected with the 20th overall pick of the draft after he finished his final college season with a 93.7 overall grade, which led all centers in the nation for the second-straight campaign. The early reports on Ragnow’s switch to left guard have been positive and if his college production translates to the NFL level, the Lions may well have found the next great pass-blocking guard.
Chicago Bears
The Chicago Tribune reports that rookie receiver Anthony Miller is “steadily building a case to be the Bears' starting slot receiver for Week 1.” It doesn’t come as much of a surprise, as the former Memphis star excelled in the slot during his final college season and finished sixth in the nation in yards per route run from the slot (3.43). The shifty receiver also forced an impressive 19 missed tackles throughout the year, which was the eighth-most among players at the position.
Green Bay Packers
Packers inside linebacker Jake Ryan has suffered a torn ACL and will miss the season. The third-year linebacker performed really well in 2017 and ended the campaign with a career-high 75.7 defensive grade, which was good for 16th among 85 qualifying players at the position. The Packers will especially miss his production against the run, as he produced 30 run stops on his 269 run defense snaps last year, which resulted in the league’s fifth-best run stop percentage.
Minnesota Vikings
According to reports, second-year running back Dalvin Cook is “ahead of schedule” in his rehab from the ACL injury that cost him the majority of his rookie season. Prior to his Week 4 injury, Cook took the league by storm and racked up 354 rushing yards on 74 attempts, with an impressive 196 of those yards coming after contact. It’ll be a relief for Vikings to see him back on the football field and there will be a collective hope that he can find the same form that earned him a 76.6 rushing grade a season ago.
