- According to John McClain, Tom Savage is the Houston Texans clear cut number one quarterback at the moment. McClain went on to say that Savage “has been terrific in the first two weeks of camp” and is respected by his teammates. Savage is competing against 2017 first round draft pick Deshaun Watson for the starting job.
- Savage has hardly any in-game experience since entering the league as a fourth-round pick in 2014. In limited snaps last year, he played just below average, earning a 68.8 overall grade over 143 snaps.
- Savage played all his snaps from Week 15 to Week 17 and during that span he lead the league in adjusted completion percentage at 83.3 percent.
- Deshaun Watson, Savage’s biggest competitor, is entering the league after earning the highest grade among drafted quarterbacks in this year’s draft at 91.1. Watson, known for his accuracy, lead all Power-5 quarterbacks in adjusted completion percentage in 2016 at 76.1 percent.
