- The Chicago Bears signed interior defender Akiem Hicks to a four-year, $48 million extension Saturday, rewarding a building block of their defense after only one season in Chicago.
- Hicks helped the Bears improve from PFF's 19th highest graded run defense in 2015 to 11th a season ago, posting a run stop percentage of 7.8 (16th out of 47 3-4 defensive ends).
- Hicks was also good as a pass-rusher, with a pass-rushing productivity of 7.6, which was 11th among 49 players at his position group in 2016.
