- According to Ian Rapoport, it appears that Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson has torn his ACL in practice, subsequently, ending his season.
- Watson appeared to bring new life to the Texans offense once injected, giving the Texans the ability to throw the ball downfield far more effectively. Through Week 8, 19.9 percent of Watson’s attempted throws traveled 20 or more yards, which is the second-highest percent in the league, and his seven touchdowns on deep throws tied for first. Also Watson’s 8.33 yards per attempt ranked second in the league.
- Watson has been one of the bright spots of a spectacular rookie class, ranking fourth in PFF’s rookie rankings through Week 8. Although his stats so far this season haven’t matched Watson’s overall grade of 75.1, which ranked 24th among current starting quarterbacks, it seemed that the rookie was turning the corner from his early year struggles.
- This was most notable in his most recent performance in Seattle where he finished with an 86.0 overall grade and was 7-of-10 for 222 yards with two touchdowns, an interception and a quarterback rating of 112.5 on throw 20 or more yards down to field.
