- All-time great TE Antonio Gates is returning for his 15th season after tying Tony Gonzalez for the most career touchdown receptions by a TE (111) last season, but Max Meyer of NFL.com reports the Los Angeles Chargers believe that Hunter Henry will ease the eventual retirement of Gates.
- Henry is the first tight end to lead the Chargers in yards per route run (1.99 YPRR, sixth in NFL) not named Gates, with at least 20 receptions, in the PFF era (since 2006).
- The duo of Gates (7, T-third) and Henry (8,T-first) allowed the Chargers to lead the league in touchdowns from the tight end position with 15.
