- The New Orleans Saints announced Monday edge defender Alex Okafor will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his Achilles in Sunday’s game against Washington. The news comes after Okafor put up his best performance of the season, earning the week’s highest edge defender grade at 89.7. He had his way both rushing the passer, producing six total pressures and defending the run, racking up a league high seven run-stops.
- Okafor was in the midst of his best season as a pro. His 84.7 overall grade ranks 16th among edge defenders. He was one of the most productive run-stopping edge defenders in the league this season, producing the third highest run-stop percentage with a mark of 12.6 percent. His 21-total run stops rank third.
- The Saints will likely ask rookie Trey Hendrickson to pick up most of the slack. Hendrickson, who has produced an overall grade of 74.8, has been impressive at times this season but has been mostly used as a pass-rusher, rushing on 144 of 212 snaps played. On his 144 pass-rush snaps he has produced a pass-rush productivity of 9.1, which is right around league average for edge defenders.
