- According to Adam Schefter, not only is Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith out for the season with a torn Achilles, he is also suspended four games for violating the NFL’s policy of performance enhancing substances. Smith has reportedly dropped his appeal and will immediately begin serving his suspension.
- The seventh-year pro was having one of his best seasons to date, boasting an overall grade of 86.7, 12th among 115 qualifying cornerbacks. Smith was allowing a quarterback rating of only 49.2 when targeted, the third-lowest rate among 86 qualifying cornerbacks. His 14.7 coverage snaps per target currently sits as the 13th-best rate among 119 qualifying cornerbacks.
- The Ravens will look to lean more heavily on rookie Marlon Humphrey, who’s had a strong season of his own. The Alabama product is allowing a quarterback rating of only 52.3 when targeted, albeit on 155 less coverage snaps.
