  • Carolina Panthers DT Vernon Butler left Wednesday’s preseason game with a knee injury that is believed to be just a sprain, according to Ian Rapoport. He will have an MRI on Thursday to conclusively assess the damage. He played five snaps in the team’s preseason win over Houston
  • Butler was the team’s first-round pick in 2016 but played just 266 regular season snaps for the Panthers as a rookie in an injury-marred campaign.
  • Butler notched just eight total pressures, six defensive stops and a pair of batted passes as a rookie, and needs to get on the field in year two to showcase his play at the NFL level.
