Oakland WR Amari Cooper looking to a former pro for guidance

The Oakland Raiders had a special guest at their OTAs this week in former All-Pro WR Calvin Johnson. Offensive coordinator Todd Downing worked with Johnson in Detroit where he was an assistant coach from 2009-13.
WR Amari Cooper spent a considerable amount of time Tuesday talking with Johnson, looking to gain any knowledge he can from the three-time All-Pro receiver. Johnson retired in 2016 after nine seasons in the NFL.
Cooper struggled with drops his rookie season, dropping 18-of-90 catchable balls in 2015, the highest total in the league. He improved dramatically in 2016 dropping only 4-of-87 catchable passes.
Cooper has become one of the NFL's best deep threats, finishing eighth in 2016 with 386 yards receiving on passes targeted at least 20 yards downfield. He caught 11-of-18 deep targets, a 61 percent catch rate that ranked him sixth among all receivers with at least 10 deep targets.
