- Rich Cimini of ESPN New York says it’s not certain the New York Jets will open 2017 with Josh McCown as their starter. The journey quarterback was signed this offseason to provide a veteran presence alongside youngsters Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg.
- McCown has graded poorly throughout most of his career. Out of the four seasons he’s played enough snaps to be eligible for a rank, he graded inside the top 30 positionally just once. His career highlight came in 2013 with the Bears, when he earned the sixth-highest overall quarterback grade while filling in for an injured Jay Cutler at 87.8 overall.
- The Jets head into next season with major questions at quarterback. A unit featuring McCown (45.5 2016 grade), Petty (43.2), and Hackenberg, who hasn’t played an NFL snap. In Hackenberg’s last season in college, he graded as the 116th-best quarterback at 62.9 overall.
