- In a radio appearance with WFNZ The Fan in Charlotte, Carolina Panthers Linebacker Thomas Davis expressed his desire to get a contract extension worked out before training camp. Davis has played for the Panthers since 2006 and is widely considered one of the best players in franchise history. Davis will enter 2017 at 34 years old.
- Davis had a down year by his standards in 2016, earning a 76.8 overall grade and ranking 39th out of 87 eligible linebackers. Previous to 2016 Davis had graded in the top 10 at his position each of the past three years including a career high 89.4 overall grade in 2014 (sixth overall).
- In 2016, Davis was the most productive 4-3 outside linebacker rushing the passer. His pass-rush productivity of 15.6 was the top mark for the position. He produced 20 total pressures on 101 pass rush snaps.
