- Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston says that New England Patriots DE Kony Ealy, who was acquired from the Panthers early in the offseason, is in a “legitimate fight” for a roster spot.
- The former second-round pick has struggled in his short career, posting grades of 45.0, 61.4 and 54.8 over his first three years. That 2016 grade ranked 76th out of 110 qualified edge defenders. He was outstanding in Super Bowl 50, as he had three sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and an interception to finish with an overall grade of 88.1, but he hasn’t been able to replicate that over the course of his career.
- Ealy finished last season with a pass-rushing productivity rating (measures pressure on per snap basis with weighting towards sacks) of 6.7, which ranked 39th out of 53 qualified 4-3 DEs. In 366 pass-rushing snaps last year, Ealy finished with five sacks, three hits and 23 hurries.
