Giants hoping Flowers can continue his year-over-year improvement

New York Giants tackles Ereck Flowers (48.4) and Bobby Hart (41.0) were two of PFF’s lowest-ranked starting tackles in 2016 and are the only two experienced players at the position on the Giants current roster. This likely points to the Giants counting on continued improvement from the duo along with adding competition through the draft.
Flowers showed incremental improvement in 2016, raising his overall grade from 32.5 to 48.4.
Could Flowers’ progress mirror that of fellow early pick, Chiefs left tackle Eric Fisher? Fisher saw his biggest jump from years two to three.
Both were thrust into starting roles from day one and struggled in the unforgiveable world of NFL pass protection.
While hardly justifying the No. 1 overall pick, Fisher was PFF’s 34th-ranked OT in 2016 with a grade of 76.7 (considered average), highlighting his progress from bottom rung to league average.
Considering the Giants’ quick strike offense and Eli Manning’s quick release (2.39 seconds), the value of an offensive tackle may be diminished in the Giants’ scheme.
