- Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports the Miami Dolphins will work out free agent linebacker Rey Maualuga today. Maualuga spent eight seasons with the Bengals before entering free agency. This workout comes after the Dolphins have lost linebackers Koa Misi and Raekwon McMillan to season ending injuries.
- At one time, Maualuga was an effective player grading in top-10 among linebackers in consecutive years (2009-2010). But that time is certainly in the rear view mirror as last season he ranked just 83rd out of 86 qualifying linebackers with a grade of 36.5.
- Maualaga has really struggled against the run of late. His run defense grade of 32.7 was the second-worst among linebackers while his run stop percentage of 4.6 ranked 57th out of 60 linebackers that played at least 124 snaps against the run.
