Week 3 of the preseason is under way as Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons take on Ryan Tannehill's Miami Dolphins tonight. Throughout the game, be sure to watch for Pro Football Focus grades and rankings throughout the NBC broadcast, and follow along for live updates via our Twitter stream.
How we grade
PFF's approach to grading every player on every play of every game is thorough, one of a kind, and goes beyond the surface of the game. The system is concerned with how a player performed on a particular play, not the outcome of of that play.
This in-depth grading allows our team to judge player performance in every facet of the game before compiling individual plays into an overall grade for each player by game, by season, and beyond. As a result, we can show things like how two edge defenders may have the same overall grade, but one is a significantly better run defender while the other is significantly more disruptive as a pass-rusher.

In tonight's matchup, two of the league's top-20 QBs from last season (by PFF grade) face off; below is a comparison of their overall grades from the 2015 NFL season, compiled using the process outlined above.
