- According to ESPN’s Vaughn McClure, new Falcons’ Offensive Coordinator Steve Sarkisian wants to get wide receiver Julio Jones more involved in the red zone in 2017. Jones, who was PFF’s highest graded receiver in 2016, was underutilized inside opponents’ twenty yard line despite the Falcons being one of the most proficient red zone offenses last season.
- Despite leading the Falcons in total targets, Jones had a threat percentage (percentage of times targeted per aimed pass) of just 12 percent in the red zone, which ranked sixth on the team among players with at least 30 routes run in the red zone.
- The six-year veteran posted a 106.6 wide receiver rating (passer rating when thrown to) in the red zone which was fourth on the team among players with a minimum of five targets.
