- Philadelphia Eagles edge defender Vinny Curry reportedly played hurt throughout 2016. An MCL injury in Week 1 reportedly hampered Curry throughout the season. The edge rusher was off the team’s injury report from Week 5 onward, but saw his production dip significantly relative to his final season under Chip Kelly.
- After signing a five-year, $47.25 million contract last February, Curry regressed somewhat under defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. In a seemingly more suitable role back on the edge, his grade fell from 81.7 in 2015 to 79.2 in 2016 (ranking 38th among edge rushers).
- The defensive lineman was still relatively effective on a per-snap basis. Curry accumulated 40 total pressures (though only three sacks), and his 10.9 pass-rush productivity ranked him ninth at his position.
- The former second-round picked was expected to fit in nicely as an inside nickel rusher, but only accumulated five hurries and two hits in 107 interior pass-rush snaps.
- The Eagles are deeper along the defensive line going into 2017. Curry will face competition for snaps from first-round pick Derek Barnett and free-agent signing Chris Long. He will have to be more effective in order to live up to his recent contract extension.
