Eagles Edge Vinny Curry reportedly played hurt in 2016

Philadelphia Eagles edge defender Vinny Curry reportedly played hurt throughout 2016. An MCL injury in Week 1 reportedly hampered Curry throughout the season. The edge rusher was off the team’s injury report from Week 5 onward, but saw his production dip significantly relative to his final season under Chip Kelly.
After signing a five-year, $47.25 million contract last February, Curry regressed somewhat under defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. In a seemingly more suitable role back on the edge, his grade fell from 81.7 in 2015 to 79.2 in 2016 (ranking 38th among edge rushers).
The defensive lineman was still relatively effective on a per-snap basis. Curry accumulated 40 total pressures (though only three sacks), and his 10.9 pass-rush productivity ranked him ninth at his position.
The former second-round picked was expected to fit in nicely as an inside nickel rusher, but only accumulated five hurries and two hits in 107 interior pass-rush snaps.
The Eagles are deeper along the defensive line going into 2017. Curry will face competition for snaps from first-round pick Derek Barnett and free-agent signing Chris Long. He will have to be more effective in order to live up to his recent contract extension.
