- On the eve of their opening game, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed interior defender Stephon Tuitt to a five-year, $60-million extension
- Tuitt was fantastic a season ago, earning an 83.3 overall grade while generating four sacks, 10 quarterback hits and 32 hurries, with the latter two tops among all Steelers defenders.
- The Steelers now have both Tuitt and standout interior player Cameron Heyward (who earned an overall grade of 85.5 in 2015 before being limited to 363 snaps in 2016 due to injury) locked up through 2020, giving the 15th highest graded defense a season ago a good foundation from which to improve.
