  • Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden has announced that Jamison Crowder (hamstring), Josh Doctson (hamstring) and Jordan Reed (toe) will all miss the preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens due to their respective injuries.
  • It’s perhaps most disappointing for Doctson, who is set to miss his 15th straight game. When he returns, the Redskins will be keen to see if he can return to his 2015 college season form, where his wide receiver rating (the passer rating generated when targeting that receiver) of 149.2 ranked second in the nation and his PFF overall grade of 93.9 ranked first.
  • Crowder finished 2016 ranked 69th among wide receivers with a 71.8 overall grade, and is set for a greater role in the Washington offense in 2017. Crowder ran 76.1 percent of his routes from the slot in 2016, and averaged 1.55 yards per route run, the ninth highest mark among the league’s slot receivers.
  • It’s a further injury knock for Jordan Reed, who has appeared in just 46 games during his four seasons in the league. Reed ranked fourth among tight ends in 2016 with 1.97 yards per route run and dropped just one of 67 catchable targets in 2016, giving him the lowest drop rate (1.49) of any tight end.
