Coach George Warhop thinks LT Smith can be elite

  • According to the Tampa Bay Times, Buccaneers offensive line coach George Warhop thinks left tackle Donovan Smith can be, “one of the top two or three tackles in the league.”
  • Smith has yet to come close to reaching the potential his coach sees in him. In his rookie season in 2015 he earned a 37.1 PFF grade and in 2016 he finished 66th of qualifying 78 tackles, earning a 42.0 grade.
  • Smith had a pass block efficiency, which measures the amount of sacks, hits and hurries a tackle allows by how many snaps he is in pass protection, of 93.0 which ranked 49th of 61 qualifying tackles.
  • Smith did improve as the year went on, improving his pass block efficiency (PBE) from dead last (90.4) to eighth out of 55 qualifiers (96.6) over the second half of the season.
