  • The Seattle Seahawks have signed cornerback Byron Maxwell, having lost starter Richard Sherman for the season last week. Maxwell, a former draft pick of the Seahawks, was released by the Miami Dolphins last month.
  • Maxwell played just two games for the Dolphins this season before being benched and later released by the club. He struggled in those two outings, posting a grade of 39.2 and allowing a passer rating of 97.5 which is higher than any of the other current Seahawks cornerbacks in 2017.
  • Maxwell had an excellent year for Miami in 2016, allowing just 0.84 yards per coverage snap, which tied him for ninth among cornerbacks alongside Janoris Jenkins. The best yards per coverage snap allowed by a Seattle cornerback last year was 1.00 by Richard Sherman.
  • Maxwell will enter a Seattle cornerback group that includes rookie Shaquill Griffin (season grade 75.0) and Justin Coleman (season grade 81.6) who are the projected starters with Sherman on IR. Jeremy Lane (season grade 39.2), who now projects to play on the outside in nickel, may be the most likely to see his snaps eroded by the arrival of Maxwell.
