Broncos, T.J. Ward reportedly discussing extension

Denver Broncos S T.J. Ward reportedly told beat writer Troy Renck that he and the Denver Broncos have discussed a possible contract extension, and that he wants to finish his career in the Mile High City.
Ward was the best blitzing safety in the NFL last season, racking up 17 total pressures (most among safeties) for a pass-rushing productivity score of 28.3.
Ward was historically good as a blitzer last season; both his total pressures and PRP ranked second in the PFF era (since 2006) among safeties with at least 35 pass rush snaps. Roman Harper in 2009 (18 pressures) and Rodney Harrison in 2007 (29.4 PRP) were the only better efforts.
Ward has consistently shown his blitzing ability; he has never had a PRP score of less than 20 and has never ranked outside of the top five in PRP at his position in his time as a Denver Bronco.
He wasn’t quite as effective in coverage last year, allowing a passer rating of 89.0 into his coverage which ranked 35th among 71 qualifying safeties.
Ward has earned PFF grades of above 80.0 in five of his seven NFL seasons, the lone exceptions being his rookie year (76.2) and 2016 (77.5).
Ward’s teammate, safety Darian Stewart, posted a PFF grade of 80.6 in 2016 while earning an extension from the Broncos worth $7 million per year.
