- As the second round of OTAs wrap up for the Bengals, the team officially signed their second round pick out of Oklahoma, running back Joe Mixon. The former Sooner signed a deal worth just under a reported $5.5 million over the next four seasons.
- The Bengals made drafting playmakers a priority in April’s draft by using their first two picks on wide receiver John Ross along with Mixon. Mixon led the 2017 running back draft class in breakaway percentage (percentage of yards gained on runs of fifteen or more yards) at a clip of 57.3 percent.
- Running back was a position of need for the Bengals as veterans Gio Bernard and Jeremy Hill struggled to make defenders miss last season. Bernard ranked 41st in elusive rating (a grade of missed tackles per opportunity and yards after contact per attempt) at a 26.9 clip, while Hill was behind Bernard, ranked 43rd (26.3).
