Hey there football enthusiasts! Here are five things from yesterday that you need to know to start off your weeks:
- Jamaal Charles feels like he's back to his normal self. After two years that were nearly entirely lost to injury, the running back feels like he's finally back. It is definitely debatable if he can be relied upon to carry the ball often at this point in his career, but he might still be a big play threat.
- Jameis Winston is excited to throw to DeSean Jackson. Winston believes that the Buccaneer passing attack will be improved with Jackson now in the fold. He forms a fearsome tandem with WR Mike Evans, our second-highest graded wide receiver last year.
- Evan Engram could see a sizable workload in his first year in the NFL. One media member believes that he could catch, “between 40 to 50 receptions.” It will be interesting to see how the Giants incorporate a primarily receiving tight end into their offense.
- Some guys just aren't fun to draft in fantasy, but they'll help you win your leagues. PFF's Tyler Loechner found four veteran players at running back and wide receiver that won't make you giddy with excitement to draft, but your team will be better with them on it. My favorite from the list is Frank Gore. Time will catch up with him eventually, but he's been fantasy starter material for 11 years now, a feat only matched or exceeded across all positions by Drew Brees.
- Some guys finish far better in fantasy than they do in PFF grading. Brandon Marianne Lee provided a list of six players that are currently being drafted rather high in fantasy drafts right now despite relatively low PFF grades last year. It would seem that, “potential and new opportunity,” would be the theme of the list, as players like Todd Gurley, Allen Robinson, and Eric Ebron have loads of fantasy and real world potential despite having pretty flawed 2016 seasons.
