Hey football fans! Here are five things from yesterday you need to know to start off your Wednesdays:
- PFF released the rankings of all 32 secondaries in the NFL for 2017. Going into the upcoming season, which team is ranked No. 1, and where does your favorite team rank? The AFC West, known more for the pass rushers that call the division home, also has no less than three teams ranked in the top 10.
- PFF investigated the effects that changing offensive coordinators has on quarterbacks. Aaron Resnick looked at some a few case studies to find that most quarterbacks react differently to the changing of their coordinators. The most interesting name among that group is Matt Ryan, who will have a new offensive coordinator now that Kyle Shanahan is the head coach in San Francisco.
- Anquan Boldin still wants to play football. The free agent wide receiver has reportedly talked to multiple teams about joining them this year. He's moved into a specialist-possession receiver role in recent years, but he's still tough as nails and would likely improve many wide receiver rooms around the league.
- Will a running back lead his team in receiving yards? It's happened twice since 2013, with Danny Woodhead doing it last in 2015. That said, the best chance for it to happen might come from a newly minted NFLer, Christian McCaffrey, as the Carolina Panthers don't have any monster receiving options on the outside. They do have Greg Olsen however, making the feat an unlikely one for McCaffrey.
- The fantasy football team power rankings continue! Today, PFF featured teams 28 through 25. Sitting at No. 26 is a team that not only made the playoffs, but won their division with a total of 12 wins on the year, yet they still don't offer much fantasy value.
