Good morning football fans! Here are the five things you need to know coming out of Tuesday to get your morning started right:

  1. The Cleveland Browns have added defensive back Jason McCourty to their roster after meeting with him on Tuesday. Teams went after him plenty in 2016, with his 96 targets ranking sixth-most in the NFL despite him playing just one snap in Week 15, and missing both Weeks 16 and 17. At this point it is not known if the Browns plan to use him at cornerback or safety.
  2. The Seattle Seahawks are reportedly considering adding Robert Griffin III or Colin Kaepernick as competition to be the team’s backup quarterback. Neither excelled in 2016, with Griffin grading at just 52.1 and Kaepernick at 61.6.
  3. One reporter believes that rookie Samaje Perine will be the Washington Redskins starting running back in 2017. Perine ranked 11th in this draft class in terms of yards after contact per carry average, and with incumbent Robert Kelley forcing 39 missed tackles on 180 total touches their battle this summer should be one of the most interesting in Washington.
  4. Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson expects to be ready by training camp. Johnson will perhaps be an early-down linebacker as he returns from injury, and with the Chiefs spending roughly 45 percent of their defensive snaps in dime defense, they are set up well to ease him back in.
  5. The NFL’s version of passer rating has its value, but PFF’s, which corrects for drops, throwaways, and spikes, and considers air yards passing, gives a better picture of a quarterback’s value. PFF Fantasy’s Pat Thorman offered up some quarterbacks who are underrated by the traditional number, meaning they might be flying under the radar in fantasy drafts this season.
