Good morning football fans! Here are the five things you need to know coming out of Monday to get your morning started right:
- Sam Monson gives the best three offensive and defensive candidates for the 2017 Rookie of the Year now the draft is over and we can see the team fits of each rookie. Texans QB Deshaun Watson heads the list given the beneficial situation he finds himself in Houston, and he has the ability to have a few signature moments along the season that could earn him the recognition for the award.
- La’el Collins will move to right tackle for the Dallas Cowboys, replacing retired Doug Free. Collins was dominant at left tackle in 2014 – his final college season at LSU – allowing just four total pressures, three of which came in one game against Trey Flowers, but has been inconsistent at guard. The move out to tackle could see him realize his potential at his more natural position.
- Jonathan Cooper is likely to get first crack at starting at guard for the Dallas Cowboys. Continuing their reshuffle along the offensive line, the team will hope to discover why Cooper was once a top-10 draft pick. Cooper’s grade has steadily improved each year of play, but has barely ticked above average in the NFL, and he is now on his fourth team in a year.
- The Chicago Bears added some depth by signing outside linebacker, signing Dan Skuta to a one-year deal. Skuta somewhat defines the term journeyman, but what makes this signing interesting is that he had by far the two best-graded seasons of his career back in San Francisco playing under Vic Fangio, the current Bears defensive coordinator. Reuniting with Fangio could see the best from Skuta in a Bears uniform.
- Jeff Ratcliffe recapped an IDP rookie mock draft that the PFF Fantasy staff held. He runs through ideal strategy for drafting rookies in IDP leagues, and includes notes on the top IDP rookies who went in the draft.
