Hey football fans, here are five things you need to know to start off your Thursdays:

  1. Robert Quinn had surgery on his right hand. The surgery was “minor” and he should be ready for training camp. After a dominating 2013, Quinn has had injuries and a slipping overall grade since. Quinn is likely hoping to return to dominance with a healthy 2017.
  2. LT Jason Peters got a one-year contract extension. The Eagles chose to extend Peters through the 2019 season. In 2016, he ranked comfortably in the top 10 of tackles across the league in various metrics and statistics, including his overall grade, his pass blocking grade, and his pass blocking efficiency.
  3. Pathers star TE Greg Olsen wants a new contract. Olsen is currently the league's seventh-highest-paid tight end and he'd like that to change. Olsen has graded out as a top three tight end in each of the last three seasons and was effective at receiving from a multitude of different positions last year.
  4. Does adding a top-flight secondary option really boost a No. 1 wide receiver's production? It's believed that if a team only have one legitimate option in the receiving game, defenses can too easily key to him, which reduces his production. Tyler Loechner investigates the narrative to find out if it really true that adding another option helps out the team's top receiver.
  5. PFF's Scott Barrett has a brand new efficiency metric for you. Introducing depth-adjusted yards per target over expectation. While the name might not be efficient, the metric is designed to be a better predictor of targets for the upcoming year.
