5 things you need to know for Monday

Good morning football fans! Here are the five things you need to know coming out of the weekend to get your morning started right:

  1. The New Orleans Saints have one stud pass-rusher in Cameron Jordan at defensive end, but the other spot looks to be an open competition, with at least three solid candidates to win the job opposite him and bring some complementary pressure for the defense. Alex Okafor is probably the most likely to win the job, but he will have strong competition from others, including third-round draft pick, Trey Hendrickson.
  2. Branden Albert reportedly hasn’t spoken to the Jaguars coaching staff since his trade to the team amid talk that he is unhappy with his contract and wants a better deal. That could lead to the team throwing second-round draft pick, Cam Robinson, in to start from day one. Robinson has been getting left tackle reps in the team’s rookie minicamp so far, and we look at how other recent rookie tackles have performed in year one.
  3. Another team with problems at offensive tackle is the New York Giants, where sixth-round draft pick, Adam Bisnowaty, has a real shot to start at right tackle, unseating Bobby Hart in the process. Both Giants starters surrendered at least 43 total pressures a season ago, and while Bisnowaty is far from the finished article (hence the sixth round), the bar to clear for an upgrade is not a high one.
  4. Having seen his play since transitioning to linebacker, new Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips has no plans to move Mark Barron back to safety. Barron has the third most defensive stops among linebackers since his move to the position full time, and while not yet a true impact player there, is a markedly better performer than he was at safety.
  5. Rookie landing spots matter just as much on the defensive side of the ball. For IDP fantasy players, Walton Spurlin ran down the top 10 rookie options coming out of the draft.
Safety worth way more than 2 points. Help protect your family with fast, free will.
