- San Francisco 49ers S Jaquiski Tartt was placed on injured reserve on Monday, having suffered a broken forearm in his team’s 20-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9.
- The third-year safety was in the middle of a breakout season, having achieved a season grade of 85.7 through nine weeks which ranked 10th at his position. The loss is yet another blow to a struggling 49ers team; Tartt was one of only three players on the roster to have achieved a PFF grade of over 85.0 for the season (DeForest Buckner and Reuben Foster being the other two).
- Tartt had started the season as the 49ers starting free safety, but was moved to strong safety after Week 2 to fill in for the injured Eric Reid. Tartt racked up 11 defensive stops in the three games that followed; only Cardinals safety Tyvon Branch (12) had more stops during that span. Tartt’s production prompted the 49ers to move Reid to linebacker after his return from injury.
- The 49ers now find themselves thin at the safety position, having placed Jimmie Ward on IR just a week ago. Rookie safety Adrian Colbert projects to start for the team, with former Chargers safety Dexter McCoil also likely to see increased playing time. Colbert spent 2016 playing cornerback at Miami (FL), posting a season grade of 79.4, while McCoil earned a season grade of 61.6 as a backup safety for the Chargers.
