- The San Francisco 49ers came out of Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles with a bright spot in rookie cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon, who had what could be called a breakout performance. Witherspoon earned the third-highest cornerback grade of the week at 88.1, the top performance of his young career thus far.
- In coverage for 39 snaps, Witherspoon was targeted eight times only giving up three receptions. Outside of a 53-yard catch allowed to Alshon Jeffery, Witherspoon was sticky in coverage all day and surrendered just an additional 13 yards while picking off a pass.
- Witherspoon had been solid in the three games prior to this Week’s big performance but had certainly looked like a rookie at times. With his big game yesterday, Witherspoon ranks 52nd out of 115 qualifying corners with an overall grade of 76.2. On the season, he is allowing a respectable passer rating against of 82.5.
