- San Francisco 49ers cornerback K’Waun Williams has been taking the first-team reps at slot cornerback this offseason, according to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle.
- The 49ers have an opening at the position with Jimmie Ward, who has been the team’s primary slot cornerback over the past three seasons, moving to free safety this season. Williams joined the 49ers early this offseason after spending the past three seasons with the Browns, and has played for 49ers secondary coach Jeff Hafley both in college at Pittsburgh and during his time in Cleveland.
- Williams missed all of 2016 with an ankle injury, but was effective in the slot from 2014-15, when Williams was one of just eight players to allow fewer than 1.0 yards per cover snap among cornerbacks with 200 or more snaps in slot coverage, with his 0.94 mark ranking seventh.
