Mid-Season All-NFC North Team

As part of our look back on the first half of the season, we’re breaking down every division and looking at the top performances from each position.

Here’s the NFC North, and links to the others:

Offense

Quarterback: Aaron Rodgers (GB)

He hasn’t quite been at his best, but there have been recent signs that it could be coming. Rodgers remains an elite quarterback who currently sits third in our quarterback rankings.

Running Back: Adrian Peterson (MIN)

If you thought the late 2011 injury would slow him down, you thought wrong. Peterson leads the league in rushing yards and is our top-ranked back. Simply remarkable.

Fullback: Jerome Felton (MIN)

Lions fans will be surprised to see this, with Felton working well in combination with Rhett Ellison.

Tight End: Kyle Rudolph (MIN)

His impact has waned recently, but Rudolph looked the complete package as a rookie and is continuing to show that with more snaps.

Wide Receivers: Percy Harvin (MIN) and Brandon Marshall (CHI)

While Randall Cobb has been dangerous, Percy Harvin has been downright unstoppable. You could say something similar about Marshall who appears to be relishing the fact that he's reunited with Jay Cutler.

Tackles: Matt Kalil (MIN) and Phil Loadholt (MIN)

Two tackles, two Vikings. Kalil has been nothing less than as advertised in pass protection — even if his punch in the run game is somewhat lacking. Loadholt will give up a bit of pressure, but he’s developed into a more-than-steady right tackle.

Guards: Rob Sims (DET) and Josh Sitton (GB)

It’s been a while since Sims looked this good. So long in fact, you probably have to go back to his Seattle days. Not the case with perennial Pro Bowl candidate Josh Sitton who remains one of the league’s best in interior pass-protecting guards.

Center: John Sullivan (MIN)

Was 2011 a fluke? Watch the tape on Sullivan this year and you'll have your answer.

Defense

Defensive Ends: Brian Robison (MIN) and Jared Allen (MIN)

With Julius Peppers having a slightly subdued year, Minnesota once again clean sweeps a position. They’ll both need to up their games, though, as Corey Wooten has impressed enough that with more snaps he would have a strong case for a spot.

Defensive Tackle: Henry Melton (CHI) and Kevin Williams (MIN)

Melton is the most destructive interior player in this division, and that’s including Ndamukong Suh. He’s that good. Williams gets older but has shown no signs of seeing his performance fall off a cliff.

Linebackers: Clay Matthews (GB), A.J. Hawk (GB) and Lance Briggs (CHI)

Truth be told, we’d rather have Chad Greenway on this team than Hawk, but rules are rules. The outside linebacker spots are a lot easier to give out with Lance Briggs playing like a man possessed and Clay Matthews another of the crew to make our Mid-Season All-Pro team.

Cornerbacks: Charles Tillman (CHI) and Casey Hayward (GB)

It was real hard to leave out both Antoine Winfield and Tim Jennings, but in the end we went with the two better cover corners (at least on a consistent basis this year). In all honesty, this division is simply loaded with them.

Safeties: Major Wright (CHI) and Morgan Burnett (GB)

Wright has taken a big step forward this year with some much improved play. Meanwhile, Burnett showed in his most recent performance that he could fill some of the void left by the injury to Charles Woodson.

Special Teams

Kicker: Blair Walsh (MIN)

Punter: Tim Masthay (GB)

Returner: Percy Harvin (MIN)

Special Teamer: Everson Griffen (MIN)
