The Dallas Cowboys rode into Buffalo on a five-game win streak and quickly got humbled by a hungry Bills team that dominated from start to finish. Buffalo hardly had to throw the ball yet still drove down the field with ease all game. On defense, the Bills shut down a high-flying Cowboys offense, rolling to a 31-10 victory.
Offensive spotlight: Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb had seven receptions for 53 yards and a three-yard rushing touchdown in garbage time, much to the enjoyment of fantasy football fans. Otherwise, Dallas did a whole lot of nothing on offense, with the offensive line looking like a shell of itself once stalwart right guard Zack Martin left with an injury.
Bills running back James Cook was the story of this game, and he’s been on a torrid pace in recent weeks. Cook averaged more than seven yards per attempt with 179 yards on 25 carries, scoring on the ground as well as on one of his two receptions for 42 yards. Cook accounted for 221 of the Bills’ 351 total offensive yardage output.
Defensive spotlight: The Bills' defensive line showed up big time in this one, with Dak Prescott under constant duress. Bills edge defender Gregory Rousseau finished with a sack and a tackle for loss, as did Leonard Floyd — who quietly has nine-plus sacks for the fourth consecutive season. Buffalo’s coverage unit also deserves props for holding Dak Prescott to under four yards per attempt, with Christian Benford coming up with an interception while trade deadline addition Rasul Douglas continues to be sticky in coverage with his new team.
The Cowboys' run defense has been a weak point all year long, and the absence of Johnathan Hankins up the middle was the most notable takeaway from this game for Dallas’ defensive unit. The Cowboys missed 12 tackles against the run on first review, an extremely high number in just one facet.
Rookie spotlight: Cowboys first-round rookie interior defender Mazi Smith had a big opportunity with an uptick in snaps and was not the primary reason for a rough outing from Dallas’ defense, finishing the game with a sack and a tackle for loss.
Bills rookie linebacker Dorian Williams recorded with three solo tackles despite playing in only a limited capacity.
