The Las Vegas Raiders and backup quarterback Brian Hoyer flew into town to take on the Chicago Bears and undrafted rookie backup quarterback Tyson Bagent, with the latter playing smart football all afternoon and earning a blowout 30-12 win in his first start.
Bagent finished 21-of-29 for 162 yards and a touchdown, adding 24 rushing yards. He took just one sack all game.
While Bagent completed only one pass 15 or more yards downfield, he didn’t put the ball in harm’s way and relied on a ton of yards after the catch from his running backs and wide receivers.
Offensive spotlight: Raiders superstar wide receiver Davante Adams made his frustration with a lack of usage in Week 6 clear ahead of this contest. Adams hauled in three receptions for 29 yards on the first drive of this game — matching his total from Week 6 — and seemingly looked set for a big game. However, he caught just two more passes the rest of the way, as he did not take the field for late drives in garbage time.
Bears third-string running back D’Onta Foreman went from a healthy inactive over the first few weeks to the lone remaining option of the team’s top three backs. He made the most of the opportunity, with two touchdown runs in the first half alone and another receiving score in the second half that put this game away. Foreman tallied 89 rushing yards on 16 carries, with four missed tackles forced on the ground. He added three receptions for 31 yards and three more forced missed tackles as a receiver.
Defensive spotlight: Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: Edge defender Maxx Crosby was the only Raiders defender who consistently made an impact. Crosby recorded an 18.2% pass-rush win rate and five pressures on first review, adding two defensive stops, as well. Las Vegas got sliced and diced by Chicago on the ground and in the screen game all day long.
The Bears did not allow a touchdown until deep in garbage time with 1:10 left in the game. They limited running back Josh Jacobs to just 35 yards on 11 carries.
Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson snagged a pick-six that effectively sealed this game, and he added another interception late when rookie Aidan O’Connell entered the contest.
Rookie spotlight: Raiders rookie tight end Michael Mayer was getting open throughout the game, but Hoyer either didn’t look his way or missed him. On a positive note, rookie first-round edge defender Tyree Wilson had the best game of his young career in a favorable matchup with Bears swing tackle Larry Borom, with three quarterback pressures and his first NFL sack.
Bears rookie wide receiver Tyler Scott may have worked a lot with Bagent over the offseason, as the two learned the playbook and the NFL game together. Bagent looked his way early and often, with the rookie receiver hauling in two receptions for 19 yards, but he earned targets with solid separation throughout.
Rookie cornerback Tyrique Stevenson held up well in a tough matchup with Davante Adams and delivered a few huge hits, as he has each week.
