The Jacksonville Jaguars returned from their fortnight spent across the pond in London and kept their win streak rolling with a resounding 37-20 victory over the AFC South rival Indianapolis Colts. The Colts have not won at Jacksonville since 2014. Colts backup quarterback Gardner Minshew, who figures to be the starter in Indianapolis for the foreseeable future, was intercepted three times.
Offensive spotlight: Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. continues to be incredibly productive, though it certainly helps when Gardner Minshew drops back to pass 55 times. Pittman hauled in nine receptions for 109 yards, forced one missed tackle and had two explosive receptions on the afternoon.
Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence spread the ball around throughout the contest, but running back Travis Etienne got the scoring going early with two nice touchdown runs. No Jaguars player hit the 50 receiving yards mark, but five had at least 25 receiving yards and Lawrence threw touchdowns to wide receiver Christian Kirk and rookie tight end Brenton Strange.
Defensive spotlight: Colts rookie cornerback JuJu Brents tallied another interception in his young NFL career, putting his ball skills on display once more with a pass breakup. Overall, the Colts' defense held the Jaguars to just 3.8 yards per play, with Trevor Lawrence throwing for only 181 yards and the running game adding just 85 rushing yards. The Jaguars scored 37 points because of the four turnovers they created, not because Indianapolis’ defense didn’t come to play.
Jacksonville’s run defense is now a top-five unit on the season in EPA per rush allowed, and they completely shut down Jonathan Taylor and Zack Moss. The duo combined for just 40 rushing yards on 15 attempts. Cornerback Darious Williams had an interception for the third week in a row, and starting safeties Andre Cisco and Rayshawn Jenkins each also picked off Gardner Minshew. Edge defender Josh Allen tallied his seventh sack on the young season, playing extremely well early on in his contract year.
Rookie spotlight: Colts rookie wide receiver Josh Downs scored a nice touchdown on a speed out to the left side, creating a ton of separation on the defender and securing the ball with two feet down before going out of bounds. Downs forced a missed tackle on another of his five receptions, according to PFF's first review of the game.
Jaguars rookie tight end Brenton Strange scored the first touchdown of his NFL career on a late leak out to the flat that left him wide open on Trevor Lawrence’s right side. Strange had another reception on the afternoon, continuing to play a larger role in this passing attack.
