The Las Vegas Raiders beat the Green Bay Packers 17-13 on Monday Night Football, but it was a result that could easily have gone the other way.
The Raiders went scoreless over the first 15 minutes, but they rallied around a strong defensive performance and did just enough on offense to hold the 4-point lead heading into the game's final minutes.
Then, on a fourth-and-2 from Green Bay's 34-yard line, Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels opted to kick a field goal rather than put the game away, but Daniel Carlson‘s kick bounced off the upright to leave Jordan Love and the Packers with just under two minutes to steal the victory.
Luckily for McDaniels and company, the game-winning drive lasted all of seven plays as Amik Robertson snagged the game-ending interception in the back corner of his end zone.
It was an unorthodox offensive game plan for the Raiders, to say the least. Star wide receiver Davante Adams appeared to be used as a decoy for most of the game and saw just one target over the first two quarters. The team also ran four trick runs (reverses, jet sweeps) in the first half, the most in a first half since Week 14 of the 2022 season…when the Raiders attempted five.
For Green Bay, it was another game of highs and lows for quarterback Jordan Love, who finished 16-of-30 for 182 yards and three interceptions. One of Love's best plays came in the middle of the third quarter at his own 17-yard line when he rolled out of the pocket and found Christian Watson wide-open for a 77-yard gain. The lows came through two of his interceptions, the first to a linebacker he evidently never saw and the second on an attempted deep shot to seal the game.
On the season, Love is now 5-of-19 for 176 yards and an interception on passes thrown 20 or more yards downfield, good for a 43.8 passer rating and a sub-60.0 PFF passing grade.
The win ends the Raiders' three-game losing streak. Both now sit at 2-3.
Editor's note: All PFF grades and advanced stats will be reviewed and finalized by 12 p.m. E.T. Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Offensive spotlight: The Raiders featured Jakobi Meyers heavily in this one, feeding him 10 targets over four quarters. He caught all seven catchable passes thrown his way for 75 yards, one touchdown and five first downs, with two of those catches going for 15 or more yards.
Defensive spotlight: There were concerns about the Raiders' secondary depth heading into the game, but Amik Robertson stepped up in a big way on Monday night. Targeted three times in coverage, he allowed just one catch for 4 yards and came down with the game-ending interception. Love had a passer rating of just 2.8 on throws into Robertson's coverage.
Rookie spotlight: Raiders tight end Michael Mayer was targeted three times, and he caught two of those targets for 39 yards, 26 of which came after the catch. Both of his receptions went for 15 or more yards, and he averaged a very healthy 2.44 yards per route run.
