Geno Smith and the Seattle Seahawks beat the New York Jets 23-6, mathematically eliminating New York from playoff contention for an NFL-leading 12th consecutive season.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks keep their slim postseason hopes alive with an 8-8 record heading into the final week.
Offensive spotlight: Kenneth Walker III is making a serious push for Offensive Rookie of the Year. The Seahawks’ second-round running back ran for 133 yards on 23 carries against the Jets, 109 of those yards coming after contact.
Defensive spotlight: Interior defensive lineman Solomon Thomas has struggled since being taken third overall by the San Francisco 49ers in 2017, but he’s been absolutely dominant over the last couple of weeks. His 92.9 grade since Week 16 leads all defenders. Thomas recorded a sack and three pressures against the Seahawks, posting a career-high 50% pass-rush win rate. He also came away with a tackle for loss and two run stops.
Rookie spotlight: While Walker is trying to win Offensive Rookie of the Year, Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner is locking up Defensive Rookie of the Year. The fourth overall pick from Cincinnati allowed only two catches for 13 yards on seven targets. He also forced three incompletions and finished with a 39.6 passer rating when targeted.
Offensive line spotlight: The Seahawks offensive line struggled mightily in the victory. Seattle allowed pressure on a season-high 50% of its pass-blocking snaps. The lone bright spot was left guard Damien Lewis, who allowed only one pressure on 34 pass-blocking snaps.
